The Fastest Week Ever

Do you believe that our little man is 1 week old?  I’m not sure where the week has gone to be honest.  It was a busy week full of visitors.  Some friends from my work came by mid week to check out Mr. Man (my new nickname for Evan).  Then Scott’s mom came up yesterday to help so Scott could go into work for a couple of hours.  Evan’s Aunt Stephanie, Uncle PJ, and cousins stopped by yesterday too.

Wednesday we went to the pediatrician to have his check up and he had gained about half of the weight he lost in the hospital back.  I would guess he is already back up to his birth weight since he had gained 7 ounces in just 2 days.  Doc said everything looked good and we go back next Friday for a 2 week check up.

I’m healing pretty well too.  A little achy now and then, but nothing that can’t be cured by Mr. Man’s adorable little face!

All in all it was a whirlwind week.  We’re starting to get our bearings and get into the best sort of routine we can with a 1 week old that had a routine of his own!

Evan is here

He was born on January 21, 2011 at 1:11pm, weighing in at 8 pounds 8 ounces and 20.5 inches long.

Mommy, Daddy, and Evan are all doing great.  Evan is eating like a champ and we just can’t get enough cuddle time with him!

Well Wishes from 10 Year Olds

So I teach 3rd and 4th grade, and today was my last day at work before Evan’s arrival.  My 4th graders made me congratulations cards full of well wishes and some of them even decided to throw in some advice.  The cards had me laughing at my desk this afternoon.  Here are some of the highlights.

  • I hope you like him.
  • I hope he turns out cute.
  • You should go green once Evan comes.
  • I hope you have fun, but you might not because babies cry a lot.
  • I’m sure he’s going to like his new home.
  • Don’t forget to be careful with him.
  • You played your cards right and are getting a baby boy.

Now what am I to do with all that great advice?  Of course, some of the kids wrote really sweet messages in their cards.  Here are some of my favorites.

  • You’re going to be a great mom.
  • Evan will be a lucky boy to have you for a mom.
  • I’ll miss you while you’re gone.

I have the best students!

Lucky Me

Last Friday, when I came home from work, I was really disappointed that I still had to go into work the next week.  The way I looked at it was that I could take the whole week off and go back almost a whole week before spring break, or stick it out and only have to go back for a day or two before spring break.  I decided to stick it out.  I was just happy for the three-day weekend.

Well come yesterday, I was dreading going back for two days.  I hurt yesterday and all I did was take it easy.  I was incredibly tired and I had a THREE-DAY WEEKEND!  I had no idea how I was going to get through two days at work. Imagine my excitement as I looked out the back door last night to see our deck and outdoor furniture completely glazed over with ice!

So this morning, I was elated when I found that we had a two-hour delay!!  I set the alarm for 2 hours later and snoozed for a couple more hours.  Two hours later, I woke up and turned on the TV to find that school was now closed for today!  Whew….another day to sit back and relax.  That means I just have to work tomorrow and I’m done!!!  I can make it through one day at work.

Not sure what I’ll do today, but I know it isn’t work, so I’ll take it!

Mark the Date

It is official.  Evan will make his arrival into the world on Friday, January 21.  The c-section is scheduled for 12:30, so he’ll make his debut shortly after that!  We’re so excited!!!  Please keep us all in your prayers!

We’ll likely update the blog first (it is easier than sending lots of e-mails), so check back to see our little man!!

The Latest from Evan

Hi there Family and Friends,

Just wanted to update you on the latest and greatest!  I am quite comfortable here in Mommy’s belly.  I mean who wouldn’t be?  It is much warmer in here than it is out there.  Mommy takes such good care of me in here, so I try not to make her uncomfortable.  I figure what’s staying put for another week or so going to do.  Well yesterday I got poked and prodded trying to figure out why I’m still so high and floating around in mommy’s belly.  It wasn’t the most pleasant, but the verdict was that I’m floating too much, I’m too big, and mommy’s too small.  I’ll be born late next week by a c-section.  Mommy and Daddy are OK with this.  Deep down Mommy knew this was how it was going to work out.  We’re all just excited about finally meeting each other!  We’ll know the official date later today and we’ll keep everyone posted.  It looks like my birthday will be January 20th or 21st, so watch out world because, here I come!!!Can’t wait to meet everyone!

Love,

Evan

Our Predictions

So, because I like to bite off more than I can chew, I decided to make Evan’s baby book.  It actually didn’t take me too long and was kind of fun.  One of the pages in the book was inspired by one of my favorite blogs, Young House Love.  When they were expecting their little girl they did a similar page and we thought it would be fun to recreate it.  So here’s a peak at our predictions for Evan.  Scott of course wants to keep score to see who “wins”.  My opinion is that we both win!

Full Term

As of yesterday, I am considered full term.  What that means is that if Evan were born today, he would be just fine and thrive!  So what that means to me, is that he can come at anytime!  I have what my Doctor calls IDBP syndrome…otherwise known as “I’m Done Being Pregnant Syndrome”.  I’m tired of the backaches, tired of not being able to be comfortable in any position, tired of having irregular contractions….just tired and done in general.

Plus I’m as big as a house.  I me tone of Scott’s customers at Target yesterday and he told me I was looking “plump”…nice right?  Then today I went to check out a new store and two complete strangers said something to the effect of “Oh my, you’re ready to pop any day”.  My response….one can wish!

I am starting back to work Monday after having 18 days off in a row.  It is bittersweet because I want to work to keep my mind occupied, but I’m not looking forward to how much I’m going to ache each day until Evan comes.

OK, so that is my Full Term vent for the day.  Hopefully I won’t have too much longer to complain!

Oh and since I was too busy complaining……Happy New Year!!!
